2009 Is A Great Year For Golf – And The Perfect Time To Take A Golf Break
2009 Is A Great Year For Golf – And The Perfect Time To Take a Golf Break
If you are a golf fan, then you are likely to know 2009 has been a much anticipated year, with the comeback of Tiger Woods to the circuit and an exciting US open championship forecast. If you are enjoying this exciting and golden year for golf, why not capture your enthusiasm by taking a relaxing golf break?
We all get swept along in sport fever – whether it’s an increase in people taking to the courts during Wimbledon, or children racing to the local swimming pool following the olympics. The great thing about a golf break is you can combine a couple of days on the green, with a relaxing stay at a luxury hotel – it’s time to get excited about this year of golf highlights.
Get Swept Along And Enjoy A Golf Break
Following a knee injury, Tiger Woods took some time out to rest and recover and has made a return to the professional circuit in 2009. Failing to win the Masters in April has meant all eyes are now on him for the US Open as the defending champion aims to win his 15th major title – will he perform under the pressure?
New players Anthony Kim, Camillo Villegas and big character John Daly are all set to play more on the European circuit, as America struggles with the recession and European prize funds increase. There is alot of buzz surrounding Kim and Villegas, and they are both ones to watch for the future.
New to 2009, the end of season tournament played in the desert of Dubai will earn the winner a whopping $3,666,660, which makes it the world’s most lucrative tournament. It remains to be seen whether it will prove popular with viewers and players – so far Woods and Mickelson have failed to sign up.
If you are English, you will be waiting with baited breath for an English major winner – it is 13 years since an Englishman won a major tournament (Nick Faldo at the 1996 masters). There are many players who are good enough to compete with the best, however they are all earning a very decent living without winning anything perhaps not giving them the impetus they need – Justin Rose, Luke Donald and Paul Casey to name a few. 2009 could be the year they step up and start making an impression.
Don’t just watch, play!
There are certainly some exciting events to look forward to in the golf world, and if you are a fan you will be following your favourite players and tuning into all of the big tournaments. If you are inspired to play more, book a golf break at a luxury hotel to get into the spirit of things, improve your swing and look forward to the next season.

Established in 1994, the golfing tournament will see it’s 15th anniversary this year. It will be played at the Harding Golf Club in San Fransisco, California. It is considered part of the PGA Tour. The Harding Golf Club was first opened in 1925 and was named so after late president of the United States, Warren G. Harding. Several more PGA Tour events are set to held at the Harding Golf Club in the coming years.
The format for this tournament is a match play scoring system, many say that this idea is drawn from the much similar Ryder Cup. There are twelve players for each side (representing the United States and the rest of the world) and a non playing team captain. Team captains this year will be Fred Couples from the United States and George Norman from Australia. However, even though the captains take no direct role in playing in the tournament they do set up the team for events and choose pairings for team doubles.
Expected future sights for the tournament are Royal Melbourne Golf Club, Melbourne, Australia for the 2011 Presidents cup golf tournament.

Torrey Pines Will Host 2009 LPGA
Paula Creamer won the Samsung World Championship last year, when it was held in Northern California. (File photo / Getty Images) – The LPGA Tour is returning to San Diego this year with a premier tournament to be played at Torrey Pines.
City officials and representatives from International Management Group will announce this morning that the $1 million Samsung World Championship will be played Sept. 17-20 on the Torrey Pines South Course.
The 72-hole event, sanctioned by the LPGA and staged by IMG, will feature 20 of the best players in women’s golf, including 2008 Samsung champion Paula Creamer and the tour’s biggest star, Mexican Lorena Ochoa.
“Torrey Pines is held in such high regard, and this is a tournament with the best players on the LPGA Tour, so it’s an attractive fit that works for everybody,” said Torrey Gane, the tournament director from IMG who moved into a San Diego office recently.
A deal to bring the 29th edition of the Samsung to Torrey Pines has been in the works for more than a year. Negotiations moved slowly until after the 108th U.S. Open was held on the South Course last June. Since then, discussions have focused on matching dates with when the Torrey courses were available.
Initially, the South Course was booked with several large corporate outings during the September week the LPGA had designated for the tournament. The North Course was being considered by IMG, but after two corporations canceled their bookings on the South, it became available to using ladies golf clubs by ladies golfers.
The city’s agreement with IMG is to host this year’s tournament, with an option for 2010.
Tournament week begins Monday, Sept. 14, but practice by the LPGA players will be limited that day because a corporate outing on the South will go on as scheduled. The North Course will host its usual public play during the week, according to City Golf Manager Jon Maddern.
The deal calls for IMG to reimburse the city’s golf enterprise fund for lost green fee revenue on the South and staff overtime during the week. Maddern has estimated that figure to be $200,000.
Maddern said very little extra work is required to bring the South to the LPGA’s requirements. He said the tour’s agronomy officials have requested the rough be 2
