To play golf you need good hand-eye coordination, balance, and knowledge of golf swing biomechanics, athletic ability and a good amount of creativity. The average golfer’s gross score is about 107 shots. And no matter what area of your game needs improving, whether it’s balance and alignment or power and speed, there’s a simple solution.

You want to play your game of golf with confidence. Know that you’re improving your swing each time that you play. It’s good to approach the game with a positive attitude and repeat predetermined affirmations like, ‘I play great golf all the time.’ Now if you’ve hit with your golf driver perfectly just one time, then you can do it every time you play. The subconscious mind knows the correct number and sequence of muscle contractions and nerve impulses that are needed, which is called muscle memory and is used in all sports. Be aware that the mental aspect of the game contributes to the difficulty of your golf swing.

When you swing your club, you should use the muscles in your legs and trunk. And sidespin will occur when the clubface is not properly aligned perpendicularly to the plane of the swing. If you have problems with your left knee buckling when you swing, try imagining holding a soccer ball between your knees.

Make sure to try to use the proper golf swing technique, never a shortcut. Ask your golf pro to take a minute to evaluate your posture and biomechanics while you’re swinging. And use the basic ‘hitchhiker’ position when you’re working on your backswing.

As the body matures, the ability to rotate the upper torso can be affected and the hand action can also slow down thus requiring a slightly stronger grip than one would use if they were younger. After you’ve hit the ball, you should follow through with a continued rotation to the left. And make sure to swing slowly and steadily using good rhythm and good biomechanics.

At the end of your swing, the weight should be shifted almost entirely to the left foot, the body fully turned to the left and the hands above the left shoulder with the club hanging down over the back. Putting can become a recurring nightmare and a condition called the ‘yips’ has affected not only amateurs but many golf professionals so you should get expert advice and consider a golf swing trainer if this happens to you.

By using just a few simple tips, techniques and stretches, you can increase the distance of your drives by up to 20 yards – almost overnight. One good exercise is to hold a medicine ball in front of you and turn back and forth, left and right as far as you can go. It must be rotational if you want to improve on your driving distance. And because the proper golf swing is mostly rotational it really makes sense to concentrate on your turning ability as it relates to both range of motion and speed. You never want to underestimate the sheer value of fitness when it comes to your golf swing and your overall golf game.

Regarding golf swing aids and golf swing trainers – golf magazines often cover reviews by golfers, making it much easier to choose the right one for you. Before buying any aid or trainer for your swing however, check with an expert to get an idea of what problem you need to work on first, for example, the backlift of your golf swing or the momentum of the downward thrust or stance. Keep in mind that with some of the golf swing trainers, you may still need help from a pro.

And if you’re looking for an aid to improve your stance they’re fairly easy to find. If you’re a golfing novice just starting out, it’s easy to become overwhelmed with all there is to learn.

There are a wide range of golf swing aids and analyzers on the market today to help the both the beginner and advanced golfer improve swing techniques. Most of all you don’t want to waste your money on an aid or trainer you don’t need or will never use so make sure to look for reviews and ratings online or offline for any golf swing trainer that you’re considering.

It’s most important to try to relax and try to really enjoy your game. Consider a golf vacation package as a good way to get in more practice. And if you can’t take your golf clubs and golf accessories with you when you go, you should be able to easily rent golf clubs, golf accessories, golf bags, golf carts or golf cart covers at any golf resort.

So when you play a round of golf, concentrate on your putting, improving your golf swing or something specific for that day; have a firm plan in mind. It makes sense to invest in a few of the newest golf videos or DVDs, golf books, golf software and golf ebooks; older golf books may be outdated – there are hundreds of free and simple golf tips to seek out in consumer and sports magazines also, in books, ebooks, software and DVDs both, online and offline.

Did you know that the average golfer’s gross score is 107 shots? If you’ve hit with your golf driver perfectly one time, you can do it every time; you have a perfect, proper golf swing, just develop it. And now is always the time to fix an unpredictable golf swing.

Positive thinking and positive energy you send out will influence your game, just as negative thinking and therefore negative energy will affect it also. Understanding your golf swing is one of the first steps you can take toward swing improvement. Don’t worry about what others think or say about your swing if it isn’t up to snuff; work to improve it at your own speed. Golf also requires tough mental fitness as well as physical fitness and this is often overlooked.

When you swing, use muscles in your legs and trunk. Ask your golf pro to evaluate your posture and biomechanics while you are swinging. At the end of a backswing the hands should be above the right shoulder with the golf club pointing more or less in the intended direction of the ball flight.

And sidespin occurs when the clubface is not properly aligned perpendicularly to the plane of the swing and make sure not to grip the golf club too tightly. Accomplished golfers purposely use sidespin to ultimately steer the ball around obstacles or head toward the safe side of fairways and greens.

When you swing, if you have problems with your left knee buckling, imagine holding a soccer ball between your knees. The backswing is a simple rotation to the right, consisting of a shifting of the player’s body weight to the right side, turning of the pelvis and shoulders, lifting of the arms and flexing of the elbows and wrists. It is difficult for a golfer to practice hitting shots longer than short pitch shots, unless of course, one pays to play golf or pays to practice at a driving range or indoor golf training facility.

The most important thing about the golf swing is the angle, not the strength that is applied to it, that’s one of many swing secrets. Ideally putts and short chips are played without much movement of the body, but almost all other golf shots are played using variants of the full golf swing.

Consistent workouts will change your golf game forever. Turn to golf exercise and techniques if you want to gain more strength and power. To prevent injury and improve your swing speed and distance requires your body to be strong and flexible. Most golfers don’t know there are techniques that will greatly affect swing mechanics; you can get an edge by changing your approach.

Overall, investing in golf swing trainers will greatly improve your swing and your game. There are a wide range of golf swing aids and analyzers on the market today to help the beginning and advanced golfer improve swing techniques. Keep in mind that with some golf swing trainers, you will probably still need help from an expert.

Sporting goods stores also carry golf swing trainers and aids to improve your game. There are golf swing trainers that will help you with your swing alignment. There are lots of good golf swing aids on the market today.

Before buying any aid or trainer for your swing, check with a pro to get an idea of what problem you need to work on first; for example, backlift of golf swing, momentum of downward thrust or stance. Golf swing trainers and aids can often be found online and are often discounted or much cheaper. Be cautious about any claims in TV commercials and magazine ads; seek expert advice before you buy because the claims may not be reasonable.

If you apply combined mental and physical workouts, your reward will be super, proper, perfect golf swing improvement. Consider a golf vacation, maybe a Myrtle Beach vacation package, or a Las Vegas vacation to get in more practice and if you can’t take your golf clubs and golf accessories with you, you should be able to easily rent golf clubs, golf bags, golf carts and golf cart covers or any other golf accessories at any golf resort. Having a good plan and working on specific aspects of the swing or game should be your goal.

Try to concentrate on one of the weaknesses in your swing at a time. Make sure to find and use good golf swing trainers to help improve your game. And you’re sure to achieve a perfect, super, proper golf swing every time.

When people write about the top professionals, they tend to talk about the externally visible aspect of their game ? their swing technique. Those same writers rarely tell you about the golf mind golf secrets of those same professionals.

So what about Jack Nicklaus and 90% of golf in the mind?

When I started out in golf in the late 60?s I recall hearing Jack Nicklaus talk on TV about golf being 90% in the mind. However, when I eagerly read his first book, The Greatest Game of All published in 1969, I found very little information about golf psychology. In fact, two thirds of the book was biographical and the remaining third was about the golf swing. Maybe that was what the public wanted to hear or what Herbert Warren Wind, his co-writer, wanted to write about. There wasn?t any more about golf psychology in Jack?s Golf My Way published 5 years later.

Surely Ben Hogan?s secret was about swing mechanics?

I only recently found a similar contradiction about Ben Hogan in an article I read somewhere online. Now I got interested in Ben?s ideas a few year?s back when I first bought my Explanar swing trainer. I had a series of lessons with its inventor Luther Blacklock up at Woburn Golf and Country Club. Now Luther is a real advocate of Ben Hogan?s swing technique and has published a well thought out instructional DVD called The Lost Fundamentals of Hogan. Luther demonstrates these lost fundamentals looking like, swinging and dressing exactly like the great man.

So what was the contradiction? Well, the article I read suggested that according to Bob Rotella, one of the golf psychology greats, he interviewed Ben Hogan shortly before Hogan?s death in 1997 and asked what Hogan?s real swing secret was. Hogan told Rotella that the technical secret was something to do with how he cupped his wrist at the top of backswing.

Hogan went on to say that the real secret to his starting to win major championships came when he eliminated all swing thoughts from his tournament play and focussed instead on imagination and instinct. I would describe that as trusting his unconscious mind. Hogan added that he only told people about his swing secrets because that?s what they wanted to hear about.

Well what about other top professionals

So how many other top professionals are being similarly misrepresented in this way?

The putting green is the best place to introduce kids to golf by putting. Once an “understanding” is developed, close to the green chipping should be introduced. As the junior golfers get farther away form the green pitching will be introduced and finally the full swing.

Sooner or later the junior golfers will want to play a round. Many parents, as well as other players, wince at the thought. They are afraid a bad golf course experience might turn their junior golfers off to the game of golf. Brad Myers, South Texas PGA 2005 Eastern Chapter Junior Golf Award winner, gives you some hints on how to keep the game of golf fun when you first go to the golf course.

1. Go out with your junior golfer in .non-peak. hours. At some courses this is easier to do than others.

2. Depending on their age allow them to .tee it up. from the 100 or 150 yard marker on all the par fours and par fives to begin the hole. This is not as daunting for them and will help keep the group moving around the golf course.

3. Before you start, agree with the junior on what the “max score” per hole will be. This can also make each golf hole fun by making it a game. It is very important not to make a big deal if the max is hit and making the junior feel inadequate. Both the adult and the junior needs to remember .it is just a game.

4. Before you start to play, determine what their .personal par. will be for every hole you will be playing. As the junior golfer improves obviously the “personal par” will go down.

5. Make the putting green the goal. This is a good way for the younger junior golfers to get started and as it reads only count the shots that it takes to get to the green to determine a score.

6. The hole does not need to be the end of the hole. What does this mean? Some smaller juniors find it more fun to hit it into a bunker than onto a green. This may seem counter-intuitive to many golf purists however, once you think about it, typically the bunkers are smaller than the putting greens. This can only make them better later. In addition, they LOVE to climb into the bunkers and this gives us a chance to teach bunker etiquette.

7. Keep the game fun at all costs!!! Keep a junior golf journal to continue the fun at home as well as build memories that can be looked upon forever. With so many activities available to our young people, their interest may come and go. However, by keeping it fun they will always come back to golf.

The first question most people ask when introduced to the golf swing plane is ?what is it?? Well, before we get into the mechanics let me just say that if understood and the techniques I mention below are applied, the swing plane will help improve a golfers game no end!

Golfing idol Ben Hogan was one of the biggest advocates of maintaining a controlled swing plane and for good reason as his shot consistency improved and he went on to become one of the best hitters on the PGA tour.

Imagine that your swing is a pendulum. Ideally, you want your club head to follow the arc of a pendulum when you take your club back, through your downswing, on impact, and on your follow through. That is your swing plane. If it?s offline to the left or right, you?re going to be hooking or slicing.

If you?re off your swing plane, you will be making constant adjustments during your swing ? whether you know it or not. These could be subtle and not-so-subtle movements made so you hit the ball squarely. Too far outside? You will pull in your arms or straighten your stance. Too far inside? You may have to lean forward slightly to try to make contact. All of these corrections are damaging because they take focus and power away from your shot. Mastering a great swing plane is the result of mastering the proper swing fundamentals.

Firstly, you must master your stance. You should be bent forward at the hips and not hunched at the shoulders with your back flat and your knees slightly bent. Keeping your back flat will stop you swinging with your arms (big mistake) and will enable your back to act as the axis. Turning your shoulders as you take a backswing will create the torque and bringing your club down will release the torque at the waist, with your arms merely guiding the club.

Make sure you also don?t swing your hips and body backwards during your back swing ? this is a very common mistake and will take the club head off-plane and most likely result in a slice. Focus on keeping your hips still and twist at your wait during your backswing. Don?t move your hips forward either as this will have the opposite effect and result in a hook.

Here?s a final tip to help you maintain your swing plane. Take two wooden sticks or broken clubs and stick them in the ground about 3 inches from each hip. Practice your shots and concentrate on not touching the sticks. If you can master this, you?re beginning to master your swing plane!
