Ladies European Golf Tour 2009 Survey
Want to know what professional golfers really think about the big issues of 2009? Here are the key findings of LET 2009 survey . . . Golf in the Olympics What is the ultimate prize: Olympic Gold, the US Open or the British Open? Unsurprisingly the British Open was a convincing winner (57%) but the lure of gold in 2016 was greater than we expected with 20% wanting the medal ahead of the two Opens and a further 17% keen to grab all three.
The marketing of ladies golf When we asked the players to get creative and suggest improvements for the promotion of the game the biggest cry was for improved television coverage. In terms of competing in a men’s event 1 in 4 respondents have or would consider playing (”it would be an amazing experience”), but they were keen to qualify under what circumstances. “Only as a one-off”, said one and, “not unless it was co-sanctioned with ALL the professionals,” said another. In a slightly more frivolous vein we asked what music the players would play on the first tee if it were permitted (as Aussie player Anna Rawson suggested it should). If it ever happens be prepared for lots of Black Eyed Peas and Coldplay. Tiger Woods When doing the survey to the LET and the players getting the opportunity to answer it something hit the fan – and it wasn’t a wild Tiger tee shot. The players responded in the first week of the controversy and reaction to those early scandals was mixed. Clearly, when we asked if players preferred Woods or Mickelson, some were having doubts. “Mickelson,” said one player. “Or haven’t you read the news lately?” “Right now it is Mickelson ha ha,” wrote another before qualifying with a statement that seemed to sum the general feeling up. “No, still Woods even though I’m very disappointed. ” Tiger remained more popular with nearly two thirds of the vote but, three weeks on, with more scandal having emerged, it would be interesting to ask the question again and see if those numbers flipped over in favour of Mickelson. Sexism in golf According to research the only growth area in club memberships is amongst young women and yet golf clubs still operate 19th century policies. It’s absurd: who would you rather play golf with or sit next to in a clubhouse bar? Someone who likes golf (their sex is irrelevant) or a mad man (or even sad man) who is prejudiced against half the human race? So how do Europe’s finest lady golfers view the golfing gender gap? The general feeling is that the professional game is slightly less sexist than club golf. “Too many courses are still in the dark ages,” wrote one player. Article recommended: Why golf is better than sex Tour questions We can reveal that Becky Brewerton is the ball-striker most admired by her peers. Diana Luna’s short game and Rebecca Hudson’s putting skills are also envied, but neither swept the board in the overwhelming fashion Brewerton did. Talking of fashion, Beatriz Recari was voted “best dressed off the course” with Paula Marti and Rebecca Coakley sharing the “on the course” vote. Fashion home: www. go4uggboots. com We also asked if Michelle Wie will have won a major by the end of 2012. A hefty 83% think she will have but one player was unimpressed. “Sorry,” however, she candidly wrote, “couldn’t care less. ” Tour life Finally what picture emerges of the LET golfers off the course? Musically, in addition to the Black Eyed Peas and Coldplay, there were votes for Eminem, the Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce and Michael Jackson. Someone also likes the Lighthouse Family. Oh dear! Most use social media with a tour average of 366 friends or followers on Facebook and/or Twitter (the tour highest is 1220). They have a weakness for sunglasses and shoes (the items they admit to having spent most on for golf-course wear) and they prefer 24 and The X Factor to The Wire and The Apprentice. Pga Tour Takes Backseat to Champions Tour
The Champions Tour starts its regular season Friday in Hawaii at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship. The course at Hualalai always yields low scores and 20 under might not be good enough to win.
With the regular PGA Tour showcasing more celebrities than tour winners this week, the Champions tourney is the one to watch. Hawaii this time of year looks pretty darn good.
Here is my case for the round bellies over the flat bellies this weekend. Fred Couples, David Duval and maybe a first time winner are the stories at the Hope. It is so tough watching those pro-ams. It is only fun for the amateurs and celebrities that are playing. It is no fun to watch; maybe the tour should get the message.
If you want personality along with great golf, watch the Champions this week. There are eight players that have won a PGA major at the Hope this week. There are eleven players in Hawaii that have won PGA majors. The eight have won a combined total of eight majors, each having one win each. The eleven ?old? guys have a combined 32 major wins. That?s right 32. Oh yea, the Champions event boasts seven World Golf Hall of Fame members. Gary Player has more major wins then the entire Hope field and Tom Watson has just as many.
Gary Player, Tom Watson, Hale Irwin these guys are icons that have shaped the golf world, and they still got game! Player is 73 and still beats his age. He is in better shape then 99% of the PGA tour and he?ll let you know it. Player has been the best international ambassador for golf for over 50 years.
Tom Watson has eight PGA majors and has battled all the greats over his career. He always manages to sneak into contention at the Masters. He is a living testament to the qualities that this game encourages.
Hale Irwin at 63 is the all time Champions Tour winner with 45 wins. These guys still can play some great golf.
Look at this one grouping, Player, Watson, and Jay Haas. Haas is the current Charles Schwab Cup champion and the 2007 player of the year. Watching that threesome alone is worth it.
Check out these names that are playing: Kite, Pate, Sluman, Stadler, Langer, Crenshaw, Strange and Roberts. These guys are good.
With all due respect to Arnie, who is hosting the Hope, I?ll spend my time watching some of the all time heroes of the game. I?ll take Player and Watson any day.
Promotional Christmas Gift – PGA Tour Golfing Gifts (part two of two)
Following on from part one of my article on PGA Tour golfing gifts, I would now like to introduce you to six more popular branded golf gifts. Unlike a few of the products mentioned in part one, these can all be branded with your logo and details. Golfing gifts are among the most popular promotional Christmas gifts. If you have customers that golf, you will want to learn more about the spectacular gifts mentioned in the article. As before, all of the gifts come branded with the PGA Tour logo.
Mini Golf Game Set: You have seen them on TV, now you can give your customers a logo printed desktop golf putting game for their offices. The game is only 23.5cm x 10cm x 2cm so it will fit on most desktops. OK, so it won’t improve their game but it is a nice way to pass the time when they are on the phone. The set comes with a golf ball, mini club, putting green and a hole with a flag.
Executive Golf Putting Set: This is the ultimate gift for those customers that just cannot get enough golf. It features a collapsible putting club, a foldable putting green, two golf balls, and a target all supplied in an impressive leather carrying case. This is the perfect gift for office and home. It is worth noting that there are quite a few generic options on the market as well that are quite nice and less expensive.
Golf Ball Finder: Next time your good customer is out on the course looking for his or her ball, they will love this gift, though it does not come cheap. The ball finder has been designed to scout the environment looking for and find lost balls.
Water Bottle Full of Tees: This attractive bidon holds 120 wooden tees. There are a lot of tee sets available so if purchasing PGA Tour branded merchandise is not important to you, you might like to look around for less expensive options.
PGA Golf Towel: This is a high quality towel but you will be paying a little more for the brand. There are many goof quality golf towls on the market that look great embroidered. Although some towels can be printed, I would not recommend doing so as the print does not last and it does not look near as good as embroidery.
PGA Golf Counter: A less expensive option to the golf watch mentioned in part one. This device will keep score for up to four players. It will allow your customers to concentrate on their game and not the score.
